A Spooky Success: The Tim Burton Hair Theme Competition was a Hair-Raising Hit!

On Friday, September 6, 2024, International Academy hosted a Tim Burton Movie Hair Challenge that had our students buzzing with creativity! This thrilling event coincided perfectly with the release of Beetlejuice 2 adding an extra layer of excitement as our Sophomore and Advanced Cosmetology students teamed up to bring some of Burton’s most iconic characters to life. 

A Cinematic Challenge

The competition drew inspiration from some of Tim Burton’s most memorable films, and our talented students did not disappoint. The looks they created were nothing short of cinematic! Hairstyles represented characters from films like Men in Black, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, Sweeney Todd, and Edward Scissorhands. The collaboration and teamwork between students were truly inspiring, with each team bringing their A-game to the challenge. 

And the Winners Are…

In the end, two characters from Beetlejuice stole the show: Lydia Deetz and Beetlejuice himself! The winning students captured the spooky, whimsical essence of these beloved characters, earning well-deserved praise from the judges. Their creativity, attention to detail, and mastery of hair techniques wowed everyone in attendance. 

Epic Prizes for Epic Talent

To celebrate their incredible achievement, the winning students were awarded an exciting bundle of prizes, including: 

• Movie tickets to see Beetlejuice 2 

• DoorDash lunch certificates 

• Color tools (bowls and brushes) to keep their hair artistry sharp 

It was a day full of fun, laughter, and amazing hair creations, and the smiles on the students’ faces were just as rewarding as the prizes.

Photos of the student’s work showcased the fantastic, otherworldly hairstyles that came out of this challenge. From gravity-defying updos to intricate braids and texture, each look was a masterpiece in its own right – and every single participant brought something unique to the competition.
