9 Reasons to Choose Barbering School
There has always been the need and demand for barbers. Barbering can be a great career that involves a lot of creativity and technical skill. As a barber, you can work flexible hours, express yourself creatively, and make others look and feel their best. Additionally, the job outlook for barbers is expected to grow by 19% through 2030 – which is much faster than the average occupation.
But is a career as a barber the right fit for you? Read on for nine reasons why you should consider enrolling in a barbering school!
1. You’ll Gain Hands-On Experience
Barbering school provides students with a comprehensive understanding of barber theory and the hands-on experience they’ll need to become successful professionals. Every course in the program at International Academy is designed to provide you with a well-rounded education in the art of barbering.
Here are a few of the topics our program will cover:
- Men’s Hair Styling & Cutting
- Beard Styling, Trimming, and Shaving
- Coloring & Bleaching
- Shampooing
- Sanitation, Safety, & Sterilization
- Business Management
- Florida Laws & Rules
2. Learn from Real Experts
When you’re attending barbering school, you train with professionals who will help you learn hands-on in the classroom and student salon. At International Academy, we have a team of talented licensed instructors who will guide you through your courses. You can learn the latest trends as well as the classic cuts that never go out of style.
Our instructors have years of experience working in the field, so you’ll benefit from high-quality barber training right away. They will also be readily able to answer any questions that you have along the way.
3. Financial Aid is Available
There are many ways to make barber school more affordable through scholarships and financial aid. International Academy offers multiple financial aid options to those who qualify. This includes VA benefit aid, Federal Pell Grants, loan assistance, and more.
If you are eligible for financial aid, our experienced advisors can guide you through applying for aid and enrolling in your desired program. Our team is committed to helping students pursue their dream of barbering school – no matter their financial situation.
4. Flexible School Hours
You can complete a barbering program on a part-time or full-time basis, depending on your needs. You can even take night classes if you have other responsibilities during the day.
Keep in mind that in the state of Florida, you will need to complete at least 1200 training hours to take your state licensing exam. This generally takes students at least nine months. So, if you are a part-time student, it may take a bit longer to complete your training.
5. Be Surrounded by Creative Minds
Students who go to barbering school often already have a knack for creativity and artistry. As a barbering student, you will be in the classroom with other creative students.
Being surrounded by like-minded individuals will allow you to expand your creativity while receiving constructive feedback, which often inspires better skillsets and results. You can see some impressive examples of our student’s work on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
6. Practice with Clients in the Student Salon
You will also gain experience practicing your learned skills on real clients in our student salon and spa -while under the supervision of our trained instructors.
The student salon and spa will give you to chance to practice various men’s haircuts, such as fades, high and tights, and buzz cuts. Additionally, the student salon environment will help you feel more comfortable working in an actual barbershop after you graduate.
7. You can Start Working Right Away
Once you complete our program and earn your barber license, you can begin working right away. As we mentioned before, there’s a demand for qualified barbers!
Our team at International Academy will also help develop your business skills during our barbering program, so you know how to market yourself to future employers, and even start down the road to owning a shop.
8. Explore Lots of Career Options
Once you earn your barber license, you can explore various career options. You may choose to work in a traditional barbershop, which tends to offer a consistent work environment. Barbers who work in a shop will often see many clients each day, including walk-ins.
However, you may wish to work for yourself as a barbershop owner. This comes with a few added responsibilities, such as managing your employees and marketing your services. But if you make the right decisions, it can be very rewarding.
You can also sign onto an agency that notifies you of short-term barbering opportunities. Here are a few examples of where you could work through an agency:
- Film & TV Sets
- Personal Stylist
- Private Events
- Theatre Productions
- Weddings
9. It’s Never Too Late to Start
You can enroll in a barbering program at any age; the only requirement is a high school diploma or GED. This means that you can enroll later in life, even if you already have a college degree or other successful career. Upon graduation, you may even be able to use your past work experience to pursue an advanced position, such as managing a barbershop.
